RIP Steve Irwin 22nd February 1962 - 4th September 2006
by Special K Steve "Crocodile Hunter" Irwin passed away while filming footage for a new documentary. He was 44.
I'd be lying if I said I loved the bloke from the start. There was always a feeling that there was something forced or possibly fake with his permanent high and over the top enthusiasm - but it soon became apparent that what you see is what you get.
Very few people today could say they have made a career out of something they love to do. Steve Irwin died doing what he loves doing - being with animals and nature. I think his father, Bob Irwin, hit the nail on the head by saying "..better than being hit by a bus...".
It's his relationship with his father, his wife and family which I most admire. The passion he showed for wildlife was also shared with his family and friends.
I begin to think that with this emotional outpouring from the community and the world at large, we've had the Australian equivalent to a death in the royal family.
Hats off to a great Australian character. Steve Irwin you were one of a kind and will be sadly missed.... Read On |

by The Gimmick Hey Aussie Rules Footy fans (or even people who aren't)! The Gimmick is here to launch this year's Buttonhole AFL Footy Tipping contest. Before we get into the prizes, here are the rules:
1. You must be a registered Buttonhole forum member, no outsiders allowed (Yeah that's right, I'm prejudiced!). So, if you wanna join in, you'd best sign up on the forums right away. It doesn't take long and it'll allow you to have some fun posting your own comments on the forums. Besides, you could even win a prize from Sammy just for getting involved on the Buttonhole forums (we've had several happy recipients of those rewards already).

To infinite and beyond! Buttonhole's first year was just too sweet
by Hillelman In January of 2006 Buttonhole officially became 1 year old. I've said this before and I'll likely say it again: this site really grew so much, so quickly that we achieved way more than I was expecting, in such a short space of time. As a matter of fact, Buttonhole is already achieving most of the things I was anticipating for, at least, 6 months from now. Thanks to our staff, our supporters and our readers. ... Read On |

Out Toxication Part 2 The part that comes after part 1
by Hillelman Where were you when I needed you?
Never there when I needed you.
We both know I don't need you now.
Screaming out, I was calling you.
In every language I tried to talk to you,
Only my voice was silent to your ears.
I can't look, can't even look at you.
I have to close my eyes when I'm near you.
Just the sight of you makes me feel sick.
Go away; get away from me.
Stay away, where you came from me.
I wish I never even knew of you.
I wish I could forget I ever knew of you.
I'm afraid I might have to kill you.
Your existence ruins my life.
How could I have ever wanted you?
Why did I ever try to love you?
You don't deserve what I gave to you.
Not at all, in any way, for me.
What I loathe and despise is all that you are.
You're unworthy of any thought at all.
Stab my back as I turn from you.
Cut me deep, now I'm gone from you.
My blood is not yours any more.... Read On |

A few short stories from Sammy It is a dirty job, but someone's got to do it.
by Hillelman (Yes, I used the same basic intro for two articles) Buttonhole has many creative types as part of our team. Amongst our staff we have photographers, musicians, artists, people who can make soup from toenail clippings (ok, I made that one up) and so forth. One of my hobbies, or passions, is writing; which is handy since that is essentially what I'm here for. I like to write short stories, poems and anything else that takes my fancy. I thought I'd share some of my creative stuff with our readers and hopefully that'll encourage other Buttonholers to do the same. Some of my poems are online too. ... Read On |

Because I can and it makes me happy to do so. If you don't like it, just don't read it. No skin off anyone's nose either way really.

Special K and Madame Hooplah return with some big news! I guess this means I won't be getting rid of him
by Hillelman Love is in the air! Buttonhole's Special K (Kris) and Madame Hooplah (Sarah) recently returned from their holiday at Peppers Palm Bay Resort on Long Island. The biggest news of their trip is the fact that while they were up there, big K knelt in the sand (thus making him, briefly, the same height as a regular person) and popped the question. What's more, the lovely Sares said yes(of course she did)! That's right folks, the two love birds are now officially engaged to be married! Yay team!!... Read On |

Sex. Lies & Politics: The Naked Truth. Book Review Tyz thinks Larry Flynt should stick to the dirty pictures
by Tyz Larry Flint likes to tell people that he is a simple "Smut Peddler" and that despite is success he still knows what drives the average man. He attributes the success of his pornographic empire to this knack for giving the public what they want. With the current resurgence of left-leaning political commentary books (thanks to Michael Moore's brilliant Stupid White Men) Flint has seen another avenue to give us what we apparently want â€" but you can have too much of a good thing.... Hunter S Thompson Obituary Buttonhole pays tribute to the legend
by Tyz The Sports desk is empty Bubba. Raoul Duke will no longer be reporting about the geeks, the freaks, the uppers, the downers, the fear or the loathing of American life.
Hunter S Thompson shot himself at his Owl Creek Farm in Colorado on Sunday night. He was 67 years of age, but some would say he was centuries old in life experience. He lived life on the cutting edge of the counter culture for most of his life, and he was its greatest poet.... Read On |
