The Australian launch of the PSP has been delayed until atleast 1st September 2005. This puts it a full nine months after the Japan launch. The issues causing the delay are shortages of components and to boost stock availability for the Japan and US markets (so we can blame the yanks).
In further news and rumurs regarding the PSP there have been reports circulating on the web alluding to the fact that Sony may be overclocking the PSP to reduce battery drainage. This in turn will allow longer use in between recharges which translates to more gaming goodness for all concerned. The bus speed has been reportedly reduced to 111Mhz and the word is, it is software controllable. What this amounts to is Sony have the ability to unlock more or less power from the PSP on a game by game basis. Gran Turismo 4 is rumoured to be the first game to push the PSP to it's limits powerwise with the downside being faster loss of battery life. The PSP will automatically resort back to power saving mode as soon as you finish playing games that require extra power.
Somer developers have had a few issues with the way in which Sony has promoted the PSP's harware specs, as they have been led to believe a few features like bus speed and memory were more than they actually are. The 32mb of memory on the PSP apparently has 8mb permanantely tied up with the OS leaving 24mb for the developers to play with.
