After enduring endless rumors, Madman/Av Channel has finally announced the acquisition of Mamoru and Production I.G’s Ghost in a shell II Innocence. This is the sequel to the hugely influential Ghost in the Shell from 1994, which revolutionized Anime and left all anime fans wanting more.
An English version is currently in the works (about time) for an Australian release, featuring the original voice cast from Ghost in the shell: Stand Alone Complex. While this is exciting news, it means that we cannot expect GITS II to hit our stands until around November this year (which, as we all know, means January... but here’s hoping).
Most anime fans should be salivating in anticipation of this fine release after getting a taste of the Ghost in the Shell Stand Alone Complex on DVD(which I am yet to acquire the total series; hint hint Madman).
Those of you not fortunate enough to have seen the original GITS movie would be highly advised to seek out the anime triple pack, currently on sale at most good outlets. GITS, Akira and Ninja Scroll, which are all must haves, and a great introduction to the crazy world of anime, are contained in the pack. If that’s not enough to convince you to check this out, then my other teaser for you is that GITS is often said to be the iconic inspiration for the Matrix movies.
To those at Madman we applaud you in your efforts to get this release out here and to all those fans, and hopefully converts to this series of anime, show your support and get into the GITS Stand Alone Complex.
