Sydney, 3 April 2006 - Xbox 360 is staging a world record water balloon challenge at Coogee Beach in Sydney, to celebrate the biggest console launch in Australian history.
Sammy's note: I'll party with my 360, assuming it finally arrives that is.
To be staged at the Northern end of Coogee beach at 10.00 am on 22 April, members of the public are invited to jump in by registering on the Xbox website at
http://www.xbox.com/en-au/waterballoon/default.htm. Registration costs $20 with five dollars from every registration being donated to the Coogee Surf Club.
All registered entrants will get an Xbox 360 Challenge Pack worth over $150 that includes: an Xbox 360 game; a commemorative Xbox 360 T-shirt; Xbox 360 trucker cap and swimming goggles; and an Xbox 360 canvas bag.
According to Richard Hirst, Marketing Manager Xbox, "In its first week in Australia Xbox 360 smashed all console launch sales records. To celebrate that success and to thank Australians for their amazing support, we thought it only fitting that we nab another record, only this time purely for fun".
"Inspired by our television commercial depicting a large scale urban water balloon fight, this event is designed to encourage everyone to jump into a massive real-life game, in the best way Aussies know how - at the beach!"
The current world record for a water balloon event is held by 2,677 Spaniards who threw 50,855 water balloons in 2005. This event is expected to include more than 3,600 people.
In addition to water balloons, members of the public will be able to play unreleased Xbox 360 games and listen to the tunes of Melbourne band Kisschasy playing live. Nova 969 will be broadcasting live from the venue and Channel V will be there capturing all the action for a special TV show.
